Agonist
A molecule that activates a receptor, mimicking the body's natural signal. An antagonist blocks it instead.
Ghrelin / GH secretagogue
Ghrelin is the 'hunger hormone'. Its receptor also triggers growth hormone release; drugs that act on it are called GH secretagogues.
Melanocortin receptors
A receptor family controlling skin pigment, appetite, inflammation and sexual arousal.
Receptor
A protein on or inside a cell that binds a signal. Depending on the molecule and receptor, binding can activate, block or modify a response.
